Day 1 Wrap-Up

The 2025 MacDonald Cup is underway! 

Day 1 featured four matches. The Langley Thunder defeated the North Shore Indians 6-5 in the tournament opener. Tate Berkley (2G, 1A) and Lucas McDermott (3A) led Thunder scoring while Deklan Morrison stopped 24 of 29 shots. The second game of the day had the Prince Albert Predators beat the West Kootenay Timberwolves 23-5. Brayden Rieger led all scorers with 6 goals and 3 assists. Game 3 had the Saanich Express winning 14-9 over the Oceanside Sharks. Tory Bains (3G, 3A) led Express scoring with Kaden Ward and Eric Howarth combining to stop 24 of 33 shots in net.

The host Valley Sturgeon took on the Westshore Bears in the nightcap and lost 15-9. Lucas Standish (4G, 1A), Ben Majorki (3G, 2A) and Aodhan Hildebrandt (2G, 3A) led the attack with Nolan Van Sickle holding fort stopping 35 of 39 shots.
